OF SEARED CONSCIENCES (III)
“In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians. Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors.” 2 Chronicles 16:12-13 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/2ch.16.12-13.NIV
Over the last couple of days, we’ve seen how a man’s heart, once devoted to God, became hardened.
King Asa, who had faithfully followed the Lord, allowed pride to take root, leading to his spiritual decline. When the prophet Nathan confronted David over his sin of adultery and murder, David repented with deep remorse, and God forgave him (2 Samuel 12).
Similarly, King Asa was shown grace through the prophet Hanani, but instead of repenting, he grew angry and had the prophet thrown into prison. Sadly, many believers today react the same way—refusing correction and resisting wise counsel. Proverbs reminds us, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful” (Proverbs 27:6).
If you only welcome praise and become bitter or hostile when corrected, you are on a path to destruction. On the other hand, embracing correction and walking with the wise leads to wisdom. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this truth. I have set my heart to be corrigible because I know the benefits such a heart rips. I pray for sight, and a deep knowing in my heart to discern words spoken in love for my positioning, for I know you chastise whom you love. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen!
