THE HEART
“After all, who can really see into a person’s heart and know his hidden impulses except for that person’s spirit? So it is with God. His thoughts and secrets are only fully understood by his Spirit, the Spirit of God.” 1 Corinthians 2:11 TPT
The heart is often described as the seat of our emotion as we’ve discussed before; it’s also where our thoughts, decisions, and personal judgments reside.
These, however, are influenced by our circumstances and experiences, meaning they can shift over time. A person might uphold fairness when it doesn’t affect them personally, but falter when the situation becomes more intimate. Similarly, one might show generosity to close friends and family yet feel indifferent toward others beyond that circle.
This is where God stands apart—His justice, love, generosity, mercy, and grace are extended to everyone, without exception.
As children of God, our most sincere prayer should be that He searches our hearts. Only He knows the depths of our hearts and minds, and only He can test, refine, and ultimately save us.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. As the psalmist well put it, search my heart and see if there is any grievous way in it. Lead me to the path that pleases you as I store up your word in its very depth. My one life endeavor is to be led by your spirit in the big and small alike, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
