OF SELF CONTROL (III)

“For God will never give you the spirit of fear, but the Holy Spirit who gives you mighty power, love, and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7 TPT

Fear can never allow one to have self-control.

It is an emotion that leads to hasty responses, anxiety, depression, and various spiritual ailments. The reason fear is so powerful is that it signals you are trying to do something in your own strength that was never meant for you to handle alone. In Ecclesiastes 3:11, the Bible speaks of a search for eternity—a search that only God can fulfill.

When we try to fill this void with the next success, promotion, love story, or accolade, we ultimately become overwhelmed. Self-control, on the other hand, reflects a person who trusts in the power of One greater than themselves. Whether facing battles that seem endless, you remain still because you know your God fights for you (Exodus 14:14). Whether searching for a mate, you do not compromise or break protocol, knowing that no one will lack a mate (Isaiah 34:16).

Whether seeking a promotion, you understand that God alone appoints kings, and promotion does not come from the east or west but from Him (Psalm 75:6). Child of God, self-control is a form of rest. When you are able to cast your anxieties to the Lord, you not only show trust but also enter His rest. Let this mind be in you, as it was in Christ!

Prayer: Father, I thank You for this truth. I have learned to lean my entire being on You, for I know that You can be trusted. Your faithfulness is true to Your nature, and I believe that when I entrust my cares to You, You provide all that I need through every challenge. To You be all honor and glory, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
