OF SOUND COUNSEL

“Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14 NKJV

In the book of Esther 1, a story is given of a queen that refused to respond to a request made by her husband the king. It was such an aggravating act of disrespect especially in the society wherewith she lived, that it made the king gather his advisors to reason with him on a remedy. One of the king’s advisors raises a perspective that touched on the reach and influence of the queen on other women in her time. Though it may seem like a very harsh judgement, it served as an instrument of purging evil from among the people (Deuteronomy 22:21).

In our theme scripture, we are taught that it is very profitable to have sound counsel for in the presence of the latter, you will experience safety. No man created by God was ever intended to go through life by themselves; and not just life, but none of us knows everything about life. We make the body of Christ because every member works according to their ability and calling, complementing the others to have a fully functional ecosystem that glorifies God.

It is deceptive to think that you will be the sole source of all counsel concerning your life. It is deceptive to surround yourself with people who are nearly nowhere to what you have accomplished and count them as counsel because that represents no challenge at all, thus leading to no growth. As a child of God, seek to be surrounded by people who have gone ahead of you in different aspects of life and be humble enough to receive of their wisdom.

The ultimate prize of counsel is to help you redeem the time by not reproducing the mistakes those who went ahead of you had made as first’s rite of passage, while still giving you access to the finished work of perseverance through their testimony. This is the power that lies behind submission. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I am a teachable spirit, ever ready to receive from those whom you have set to go ahead of me. I treasure the anointing that dwells with the wise, and I take a hold of every opportunity to receive of it. Search my heart and purge any hindrance to this blessing that may be known or unknown to me, in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
