PRINCIPLES SURROUNDING CONVICTION (I)

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” Romans 8:16 NIV

You will often hear among Christians the term conviction. Conviction generally is a term used in a court as a verdict to a defendant found guilty, but in religious terms it is slightly tweaked to a deep knowing by the spirit that you have trespassed and have the opportunity to make it right or to apologize.

In our theme scripture, Paul talks about the Holy Spirit bearing witness with our own spirit that we are children of God. This is not just a reminder about our identity, it is also a reminder of our DNA, that our thoughts have been so permeated by God that we despise doing what is against his counsel.

That our choices are bent on reflecting and honoring Him, that we will walk circumspectly avoiding to satisfy our flesh at the expense of grieving the spirit. The spirit bears witness with our spirit also based on the personal consecration of an individual, which goes above the generic demands upon sons all over the world.

Child of God, be very careful not to grieve the spirit that you can barely feel its promptings. The nature of our helper is gentle, and the more you quench Him the quieter He becomes and that is a disadvantage to you than anything could ever be! Take heed not to grieve the spirit. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I am led by the spirit and desire to do nothing out of his jurisdiction. I submit to His leading because He alone knows the mind of God and is able to lead me into what is pleasing to you. Give me strength and wisdom in my inner man not to grieve him, but to glorify Jesus in all that I do, to the glory of your name. Amen!
