PRIORITIZING HIS VOICE

“to reveal his Son to me so that I would proclaim the Good News about Jesus to the Gentiles. When this happened, I did not rush out to consult with any human being.” Galatians 1:16 NLT

In the first book of Samuel chapter three, a story is given of a revelation that God gave young Samuel about his father in the Lord, Eli. It was not an easy revelation, but the Lord chose to give it to Eli’s successor, whom He knew loved and honored him. As he revealed His heart to young Samuel, God left him the choice to tell Eli. Samuel hesitated and feared to hurt Eli’s feelings but eventually honored the Lord and spoke the truth.

Many times we will hear the voice of God, and confer with men about instructions that God himself gave. That is what Paul is telling us in our theme scripture, that he did not rush to ask others if they thought what God had said was true. He foresaw the danger of any negative or discouraging seed that could be planted when the call was still so fresh and heavy on him. Child of God, ask the spirit of the Lord to teach you to discern what requires the counsel of the brethren and what simply requires your instant obedience.

Some of the seeds God plants in you can quickly be aborted simply by conferring with flesh and blood. Let it not be said of you that you sided with man over the vows you made before God. Halleluyah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. My heart posture is ‘speak Lord’. It is for this reason that I know I hear you continually and every day. I shut down every noise and follow the leading of your Holy Spirit. I know when to seek and receive counsel, and I know when to single heartedly obey your voice before any doubts are planted. Help me to waver in this conviction, in Jesus name. Amen!
