THE NECESSITY OF TIME CONSCIOUSNESS (I)
“Jesus answered, “Are there not twelve hours of daylight? Anyone who walks in the daytime will not stumble, for they see by this world’s light.” John 11:9 NIV
If you are from Africa, there is a running joke turned reality that Africans will be late and we seem to all have accepted that as unchanging truth.
After provisions have been made for work hours, school, meals and sleep, what we do of the surplus of our time determines whether we will be powerful or mediocre. The primary revelation concerning time is this: once it is gone, it won’t return. Ironically, all the things that you can retrieve either by hard work or purchase are treated with more care than the only commodity that cannot be retrieved except by God’s grace.
While God is merciful enough to restore the time eaten by locusts (Joel 2:25), it is not to be assumed that such a time was wasted. The literal meaning of that scripture speaks of time that was stolen from the hands of a man who carefully did his part concerning his assignment, but was attacked by the darts of the enemy (Matthew 13:25).
The gospels reveal a very distinctive pattern about our Lord Jesus Christ: The son of God who was fully man and fully God kept time! Jesus seemed to never be surprised, never taken aback and never interrupted yet he had 24 hours in a day just like all of us. At the end of his life he testifies of completing his work in the allotted time saying “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do (John 17:4)”
The difficult thing with individuals that struggle with time keeping is the inability to prioritize tasks and to focus on one of them at a time. It is imperative however that you child of God, understand that every moment of the day is a gift from God that deserves utmost care.
When our hours and minutes are wisely used, they are translated into an abundant life. The revelation of time consciousness has caused even the most heathen nations to be counted as first world. Be therefore mindful of such principles that make the world move. Praise God!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I go about all my dealings redeeming the time as exhorted by our fathers, for the days are evil. I seek your face day and night as patterned by our Lord that I may know the works of my Father in heaven and do them with precision and wisdom. It will not be said of me that I wasted such a precious commodity, in Jesus name. Amen!
