THE PERFECTED MAN (I)

“If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” 1 Peter 4:11 NIV

The word tongue is mentioned over 120 times in scripture and almost all connotations to using the tongue are counsel on how to use it wisely. The most fundamental scripture concerning this is proverbs 18:21 that life and death are in the power of the tongue. This is true for both the believer or non believer, and the latter is even more dangerous for they carry the very spirit of the living God inside them.

In our theme scripture, Peter gives us a simple directive on what to speak, He says ‘the very words of God’. Now this remains the standard whether you are upset, happy, whether you are having a conversation with a friend, a spouse or colleague and even when you are praying. The Bible speaks of such a thing as making yourself a transgressor by rebuilding what you have destroyed ( Galatians 2:18). An example would be confessing that by His stripes you were healed and the chastisement for your peace was upon Him and at the sense of any pain you pray asking ‘Lord when will you heal me’? — that is a transgression.

The same goes with trusting His word, His promises, and most importantly speaking as one that speaks the words of God in all situations. Child of God, as one that carries HIS spirit, you are better off holding your peace when you are not confident of what to speak.  Remember that what defiles a man is what comes out of him not what goes in (Matthew 15:10). See to it that you seek wisdom for He gives those that ask, and His help for His grace alone helps us bridle the tongue. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I thank you for the wisdom of your word that has taught me to bridle my tongue and harness my emotions. I know that what is on the inside of a man shall eventually come out, and my prayer is that if it reveals anything it may be that you inhabit the inmost parts of my being and have saturated my soul. I pray this in Jesus name, Amen!
