THE SPIRIT OF THE PROPHET (I)

“And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.” 1 Corinthians 14:32 NKJV

The gift of prophecy is a peculiar gift that many covet, but it can also be a very dangerous gift if its vessel is susceptible to use it for personal gain rather than God’s purpose. In the Old Testament, there was a select number of prophets whom the spirit of the Lord came upon for the sole purpose of pointing to the Messiah who was to come.

In the New Testament however, we see a transformation in the manner which the prophetic was handled because the one it originally spoke of had come. That is why in our theme scripture, Paul draws the distinction for us by saying the spirit of the prophet is actually subject to himself, but Revelation 19:9 tells us that the spirit of prophecy is the testimony of Jesus.

In other words the former foretells a story of Christ while the latter testifies of the story of Christ. Another version renders the same passage as “the gift of proclaiming God’s message is under the speaker’s control”, distinguishing the very message of God under God’s own control. Many hop from church to church, prophet to prophet simply because human beings have a sense of eternity planted in their hearts by God (Ecclesiastes 3:11) and long to know what is yet to be, but only HE can satisfy this longing.

Child of God, you were never designed to be bound by prophecies through lust for they are God’s blessing. Instead as one in the dispensation of Christ in us, our hope of glory, prophecies should simply be tools of understanding that you may be built up in faith as you seek the God who satisfies that longing. Now more than ever is the time to contend with the words spoken over us, our families and over nations and this in understanding and not lust.

Christ in you is your primary prophet, and with Him instructing you through His word, you move without fear of contradiction and will stand firm in whom you have believed. This is your testimony. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I thank you that you are not a God of confusion and can never go against your word. By your spirit, we know all things and carry the wisdom to test the spirits for many falsehood has gone into the world. Search my heart for grievous ways in it that I may have clean hands and a pure heart to distinguish your voice from the noises, in Jesus name. Amen!
