THE STRENGTH OF YOUR SPIRIT
“No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
Author and minister of the gospel, Oswald Chambers, defined temptation as a test of the possessions held within the inner, spiritual part of our being by a power outside us and foreign to us.
In Proverbs 18:14, Scripture declares that “the strong spirit of a man sustains him in sickness”or in other words, in adversity. This shows that by divine order, trials and temptations are not merely traps laid by the enemy to make us stumble, but instruments that reveal the substance of our spirit. Temptation exposes what is within us, our convictions, our faith, and our dependence on God.
Jesus Himself demonstrated this truth. After His baptism, when the Spirit descended upon Him, He was immediately led into the wilderness. There, He faced temptation in its purest form. Yet, as He said later in John 14:30, “the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” The strength of His Spirit was proven, not by the absence of trial, but by the presence of unwavering obedience.
Likewise, when temptation visits us, it is evidence of divine trust. God allows what He knows your spirit, strengthened by His Spirit, can endure. And when the weight feels unbearable, His faithfulness provides a way of escape, not always to avoid the test, but often to endure it with grace and victory.
Prayer: My Father, thank You for Your faithfulness in every trial. Strengthen my spirit to stand firm in the face of temptation. May I learn to trust Your refining process, knowing that each test reveals more of Christ in me. Help me endure with grace, walk in obedience, and glorify You through every victory You provide. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
