UNDERSTANDING STEWARDSHIP

“So he called ten of his servants and gave them ten minas. ‘Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.’ “But his subjects hated him and sent a delegation after him to say, ‘We don’t want this man to be our king.’ “He was made king, however, and returned home. Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.”
Luke 19:13-15 NIV

The parable in our theme scripture is a profound reminder of the call to faithfulness in the things God entrusts to us.

The Kingdom of God does not resemble the kingdoms of this world, where men hunger for power, honor, and self-glory. Instead, Christ, having secured salvation through His death, entrusted those He redeemed with the privilege and responsibility of stewarding His work on earth until His return.

Like the servants given the minas, each of us carries gifts, resources, and opportunities that, though ordinary in our hands, become great assets when yielded to the Lord. Our responsibility is not to compare our portion with another’s, but to put to work what has been entrusted to us.

The King who has gone to receive His Kingdom will surely return, and He will call each one of us to account — not to shame us, but to reward faithfulness with even greater joy in His presence.

Prayer: Father, I thank You for entrusting me with gifts and responsibilities. Thank You for the reminder that every resource, ability, and opportunity in my hands is meant to serve Your Kingdom. Help me to be a faithful steward, diligent in using what You have given for the growth of Your work and the honor of Your name. Keep me watchful and joyful as I await the return of my King. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
