WHAT IS IN US

“I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.” John 14:30 NKJV

In the book of proverbs 23:26, the Lord instructs us to give him our hearts so that we may observe his ways. I have often emphasized that the heart is the seat of emotions, but it is also the seat of holiness in man. Consequently, what sits in the heart of a man dictates his ways.

In our theme scripture, Jesus says “the prince of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me” — notice that our Master did not use “on me” because there is no ground for comparison between him and the ruler of this world. He instead uses in me, because in his humanity his heart had to be clean and his hands pure of anything that could be used by the accuser to accuse him.

Child of God, if there is any such thing as anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy, hypocrisy, unforgiveness and so on, those are the very things the prince of this world would be said to have in you. The spirit of God cannot fully operate without hindrance in a heart that has fruits of darkness in it, hence the ultimate necessity to part ways with these things.

This is what makes forgiveness, godliness and contentment of great gain. It doesn’t just set the others free, but it keeps you free from the handle of your accuser who is out to devour you. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I echo the psalmist’s prayer, search me and know my heart,  try me and know my anxieties. See if there is any wicked ways in me, and lead me in the way everlasting in Jesus’ name, Amen!
