WISDOM FOR THE SIMPLE

“The proverbs of Solomon son of David, king of Israel: for gaining wisdom and instruction; for understanding words of insight; for receiving instruction in prudent behavior, doing what is right and just and fair; for giving prudence to those who are simple, knowledge and discretion to the young— let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.” Proverbs 1:1-6 NIV

The Bible refers to the “simple” not as those with simplistic thinking, but as those who are naive.

The purpose of the proverbs is to guide God’s children in understanding the principles of His kingdom. King Solomon, the wisest and wealthiest man of his time, wrote these proverbs. His wisdom, however, teaches us that wealth and wisdom alone do not bring salvation or lasting fulfillment. You can acquire everything the world offers, but it may slip away or even hinder your walk with God. In Christ, we receive greater wisdom and power. Wealth serves us, rather than enslaves us, and wisdom advances God’s kingdom.

By God’s grace, we are sustained and established in our calling. This is the blessing of those redeemed by Jesus. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father, I thank You for this word. I am filled with the wisdom from above and the faith of Christ, which calls things that are not as though they are. I steward all things with the understanding that they belong to You, and I am merely a vessel entrusted with them. May it be said of me that I glorified You in all my dealings, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
