ACQUAINTING YOURSELF WITH THE WORD

“For the Scriptures say, ‘He will order his angels to protect and guard you. And they will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.’” Jesus responded, “The Scriptures also say, ‘You must not test the Lord your God.”
Luke 4:10-12 NLT

Our theme scripture gives us a story of Jesus Christ in the wilderness which the Holy Spirit took Him through before He could begin His public ministry.

In this conversation between the devil and our Lord, we are presented with an accurate and contextual use of scripture by the enemy, tempting the Son of God.

Scriptures are God’s manual to us, to be fully furnished in righteousness in order to do the works of godliness set ahead for us. As a Father speaks to a child, some things common to the household are like insider information that is known to the members of the household yet may be vague to the outsiders.

So it is with the word for us, it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search it out (Proverbs 25:2). It is your glory as a king and priest to receive a full revelation of what you read by the help of the Holy Spirit in you, when those without may not grasp the fullness of what they read.

While we see that the enemy also quotes scripture, it is your diligence in studying the Word that enables you to counter what could be used either out of context or with half the counsel. Child of God, the Word of God is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12), and its power is made even more prevalent in the hands of one with understanding.

In all things, seek to be so well acquainted with the Word for in it is the power to save. As the wise man says: wisdom is the principle thing, so get wisdom: and with all thy getting, get understanding (Proverbs 4:7).  Praise God.

Prayer: Father I thank you for the word. As your servant Job once said, I have esteemed your Word more than necessary food. I see the world through your word and this has enriched my life far greater than any possessions. In you I live and move and have my being, to the glory of your name, Amen!
