AS UNTO THE LORD
“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people, because you know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do, whether they are slave or free.”
Ephesians 6:7-8 NIV
In this passage, I believe Paul gives us one of the greatest equalizers when it comes to work ethic and the heart of service.
When we seek the praise of people, we’re also vulnerable to their criticism. And when we constantly chase perfection in our own strength, we find ourselves playing a losing game.
But when we invite God’s grace and anchor ourselves in the truth of His Word, we begin to serve and work with the sole intention of pleasing an audience of One—our Heavenly Father.
His expectations are clearly laid out in Scripture, and His desire is to encourage, build up, and not tear down. As we grow in alignment with Him, we also grow in our ability to honor others—not because of their actions or attitudes, but because they are made in His image. Whether it’s a difficult boss, a rude client, or a fellow believer who tries our patience, we are called to serve with grace, always keeping our eyes on Jesus as our ultimate reward and motivation.
Praise Him!
Prayer: Father, thank You for the privilege of honoring You through serving others. Help me to honor my leaders and submit with a willing heart. Teach me to do only what I see You doing. Soften my heart and lead me in Your way, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
