AWE AND REVERENCE

“Tremble, earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, who turned the rock into a pool, the hard rock into springs of water.” Psalms 114:7-8 NIV

Psalm 114 is a psalm of majesty, where the psalter exalts the power, sovereignty and strength of God above all other things.

Faith does not cast out awe. However much our God is relational and did all that it required for us to draw near to Him with boldness, the heart that has learnt to fear knows that faith makes awe deeper and most profound. Child of God, it is praise and adoration such as psalm 114 that teach our hearts to never grow familiar with the Lord of Hosts.

As rocks, rivers, storms, or mountains yield and move when He is our midst, so should our hearts tremble with awe and reverence though in love. Selah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this word. Yours is the kingdom, the glory, the name that is above all names. May it never be said of me that I grew familiar or irreverent in this fleeting life, in Jesus mighty name! Amen.
