CHRIST THE PERFECT SACRIFICE

“You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand— you don’t require burnt offerings or sin offerings. Then I said, “Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.” Psalms 40:6-8 NLT

Hebrews 10 gives us an account of how the cleansing by the blood was performed through animal sacrifices by the high priest every year. This was part of the instructions given to Moses to atone for the sins of the people.

While this instruction fulfilled its purpose while it lasted, it only dealt with outward sins, ceremonial cleansing that had no bearing on the consciences of men. You could be declared cleansed by the High Priest, but your conscience wasn’t cleansed of its guilt.

Christ however, gave His perfect body which knew no sin as the ultimate sacrifice, for in it there was no fault. And that ultimately made perfect those who believe in Him, leaving them with a lifetime journey of becoming Holy for the one that purchased them with His blood is Himself Holy (Hebrews 10:14).

Through this, the will of God is not merely read to us, it is written in our hearts and on our minds, and beyond that, is the Holy Spirit to bear witness with our spirit that truly this inward transformation is taking place.

This is the reason we rejoice and call this the good news. The Godhead that once was far and distant is on the very inside of us. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this unspeakable gift. I thank you for doing what no man could do, forgiving my sins and restoring me back to fellowship in your presence through Christ. I rest confidently assured that my sins have been forgiven and there is no sacrifice left to give. I walk circumspectly and never treating this free grace as cheap, in Jesus name. Amen!
