DISCERNING PURPOSE
“Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?” Matthew 26:53-54 NIV
The more one grows in the things of the spirit the more inclined to do the will of God they become in all that concerns them. Yet, even in the choosing of what to do concerning His will, two components must come into consideration: the permissible and the perfect.
In our theme scripture, our Lord Jesus offers us a perfect example of this reality. He could have asked the Father for twelve legions of angels before anyone could even touch him, and guess what? The Father would have granted it because that was permissible, but the Christ wasn’t one to abort purpose.
In Revelation 13:8, the scriptures tell us He was the lamb slain before the foundations of the world, meaning the purpose of His coming had already been determined and completed in the realm of the spirit; yet needed to be so in the physical realm too. His obedience was in choosing to go along with this plan to the end.
Child of God, the incomprehensible mercies of God show us that even in doing His will, there still is room for us to choose to stop halfway and go for what is permissible, or to obey to the end and do what is perfect. May it be said of you that you have obeyed to the end. Praise God!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this word. I take pleasure in seeking what is perfect in your sight and obeying it. My heart earnestly aches to hear ‘well done good and faithful servant’ in all that you entrust to me. It is for this reason that I yield to the leading of your spirit for He alone knows to glory Christ, now and forevermore, Amen!
