RESPONDING TO THE CALL

“We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you.” 2 Corinthians 10:13 NLT

No man is called to do everything in one lifetime.

In 1 Corinthians 12:7 and Ephesians 4:11, Paul gives us the different callings and gifts of God operating in the lives of believers at different stages and in different circumstances. Some may have one or two or multiple, some may have eloquence in each but there will always be a certain excellence in a man who learns his strongest suit and focuses on perfecting it.

For example, if your gift is to encourage others and it comes so easy to you with no heavy burden or hard yoke, see to it that you perfect every way in which you are invited to encourage others. This is your area of authority, as Paul demonstrates in our theme scripture. The downside of not knowing your niche is that you become a copy of great originals, or exercise yourself beyond the boundaries of the work that has been given to you and end up either wasting or totally veering off reason’s course.

Child of God, yes we are endowed with power to be all things to all men, but be careful not to turn the spirit’s precious gifts into a show of performance. As the saying goes, resist the urge to become a jack of all threads yet master of none.

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Open my eyes to see the things in which you have called me to and give me the wisdom to excel in them in reconciled understanding with purpose. As the psalmist pleads, train my hands for war and give my fingers skill for battle in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
