GODLY SORROW (II)

“See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.” 2 Corinthians 7:11 NIV

Just as the holy spirit produces peculiar fruits in us that make us distinctive, Paul lays out the fruit of godly sorrow so that you know how to discern it from self condemnation or condemnation altogether.

God’s correction is always to the end that we may be rebuked yet feel encouraged that there is a way out of our error and the help we need is provided through his spirit at work in us. Therefore, when godly sorrow has come upon us, we become earnest in admitting our fault, we become indignant and alarmed toward anything that has the potential to grieve the spirit and finally more zealous to obey what is righteous.

Such is the way of sorrow that leads to life. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I am tamed by your correction and encouraged with great patience because I know you chastise whom you love. To you be glory, honor and praise, in Jesus name. Amen!
