GOOD DEEDS
“And as for you, brothers and sisters, never tire of doing what is good.” 2 Thessalonians 3:13 NIV
A common misconception often present in other religions that are works based (and I mean no offense), is that good deeds are an end in itself.
Good deeds, though important are nothing short of a bribe if done as a means to an end versus it being a response to the commission we have been given by our Lord. In the latter part of this passage, Paul says “take special note of anyone who does not obey these instructions but do not regard them as an enemy, but treat them as you would a fellow believer.”
We are rich in good deeds because (1)we were freely given every good and perfect gift through Christ and through that generosity shown us (2) we may stir conversations/ curiosity among the non believers that they may have a chance to the hope they too have been called. Child of God, this is the motivation behind every good deed, not merely an exchange that if we do this God will do that.
Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. Everything that I do is motivated by the great commission to make disciples of others and bear witness to my Lord. I yield to your holy spirit to open my eyes that I may be in constant awareness of the ripe harvest before me, in Jesus name. Amen!
