HONORING OUR BODIES
“Shun immorality and all sexual looseness [flee from impurity in thought, word, or deed]. Any other sin which a man commits is one outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is the temple (the very sanctuary) of the Holy Spirit Who lives within you, Whom you have received [as a Gift] from God? You are not your own, You were bought with a price [purchased with a preciousness and paid for, made His own]. So then, honor God and bring glory to Him in your body.” 1 Corinthians 6:18-20 AMPC
This is one of the most disregarded scriptures especially to the reprobate mind and those who have gotten their consciences so seared that they feel an unrestrained desire to justify why they do what they do.
In our theme scripture, Paul tells us that sexual intercourse is a sin committed inside one’s body. But he doesn’t limit it to mating only, but he touches also on impurities that rise from deeds, words and thoughts.
The dignity of the body is illustrated times without number through scripture. Firstly because the very spirit of God dwells in us (John 14:16), and that being the reason our bodies are not our own seeing we were bought at a hefty price, and lastly because Christ lived, died and rose in the body — which means our bodies shall likewise be taken up into glory as our Lord’s.
Child of God, this leaves us with the responsibility to tend and care for our bodies as those that understand these realities. The physical ascension of our Lord suggests that our bodies will be with us on the other side of glory. Whenever you are tempted to do otherwise, ask yourself “is this something I would do/ think, or feed my Lord if He visited me this very hour”? Such a mindset I assure you will keep you alert.
Be therefore caring of this body, feed it well, exercise, rest, for this way you glorify the one who dwells in it accordingly. Hallelujah!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Help me to honor and care for my body according to your will that I may glorify you in it now and forevermore. I pray this in the name of my Lord Jesus, Amen!
