IN CORRECTION
“Do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil so that I take part in wicked deeds along with those who are evildoers; do not let me eat their delicacies.” Psalms 141:4 NIV
David had understood that though godly correction may offend the flesh, it benefits the spirit.
Naturally, we resist it because it doesn’t feel good when it happens (Hebrews 12:11), but when we see what God is able to make of a corrigible heart, our response would certainly not to be to reject but embrace it.
That is the chief lesson from our theme scripture, the time spent in amusement and little to no consciousness of God may be a temporary enjoyment but it injures the soul eternally.
May our heart’s cry always be one like the psalter’s: do not let my heart be drawn to what is evil , for He alone is able to keep us from stumbling (Jude 1:24).
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. My heart yearns for every opportunity to be mindful of eternity even in my fleeting present. May your spirit keep me ever abiding in the true vine, ever conscious and thankful in the use of my rights and liberties to the glory of your name. Amen!
