OF BEING SECURE

“Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ.” 1 Corinthians 9:19 NLT

If anyone had any right to brag about his office, it was definitely Paul. The man literally was chosen to lay the foundation of the New Testament, guidelines for how to live as a new creature in Christ!

But he did not. He did not worry about who talked about him, lied about him, betrayed, imprisoned or embarrassed him; Paul could serve men efficiently because he was free of them. We tend to care for our statuses, titles, resources, reputation and name even when it comes to the service of the Lord, yet such things make us slaves to those whom we expect validation from.

In John 13:3, the Bible says ‘Jesus knew that the Father had put everything under His power’ and His response to that much authority was to recline from the table and wash dirty feet! It is no wonder in God’s kingdom, the greatest is a servant, for it is only when you are secure in your position that nothing seems too high of too low for you to do, and do well. Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. I look forward to every opportunity to serve others for I know in so doing my character is tamed from the praises of men at the expense of your pleasure. It is my chief desire to be found a faithful servant by your grace on that day, in Jesus mighty name. Amen.
