OF GODLY WISDOM (II)
“Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning! Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time, for strength, and not for drunkenness!” Ecclesiastes 10:16-17 ESV
In yesterday’s devotion we looked at the first part of our scripture which is in regard to maturity. Today allow me to engage you on the second part of our passage.
The Bible speaks of princes that feast at the proper time and for strength, not drunkenness. As children of God, there is a tremendous demand for excellence that falls on our shoulders, not as a performance as was the law and not a burden that is heavy but a light and easy. This is one which we have been perfectly equipped to accomplish by the power and help of the Holy Spirit.
Princes that feast at the proper time and for strength is a powerful instruction for us because by it we understand that a good deed done outside of its time could be just as vain. One of the greatest marks of maturity in a believer is to be sensitive to the times and to be learned in doing things only after you have determined its end in mind. This is the only way to be able to be certain you are doing everything unto the glory of God.
Whether you eat, let it not be for gluttony or for the sake of being full, but to the end that you may have strength to serve in what you do. Whether you drink, exercise, socialize or serve let it be to the end that you have thought to please the Lord in your endeavors.
Such is the lifestyle of a prince who works within time and not against.
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. It will be said of me that I seized the times and lived a disciplined life that the Word in me may not be put to reproach, in Jesus name, Amen!
