OF GODLY WISDOM (I)
“Woe to you, O land, when your king is a child, and your princes feast in the morning! Happy are you, O land, when your king is the son of the nobility, and your princes feast at the proper time, for strength, and not for drunkenness!” Ecclesiastes 10:16-17 ESV
The question of maturity has long been related to age, but it is not always just about that. Granted a long life has much it teaches, but old age is not necessarily a seal of maturity.
In our theme scripture, the writer tells us of the trouble awaiting to come upon a land with a king who’s a child. Of course no nation can place a child on a throne, so he is referring to another form of childlikeness. The one spoken of in our theme scripture is a question of maturity in the sense of your ability to receive counsel and correction, what to address and when to look away, sensitivity to the times and what they demand for scripture tells us there is a time for everything under the sun (Ecclesiastes 3).
For us who are kings and priests through our union to Christ, it is imperative that we grow in all those areas. Paul speaks of keeping a conscience void of offense before God and man (Acts 24:16), to excel in whichever work is entrusted to us — whether voluntarily or for a wage, that God in us may be glorified (Colossians 3:23) and that we learn to bridle our tongues for that speaks of a perfected man (James 3:2).
Child of God this is what makes a son of nobles. May it be said of you that you were so and not otherwise , hallelujah!
Prayer: Father I thank for this wisdom. I have exercised my self into all these aspects from the counsel of your word. I reap the benefits of the latter daily for your ways have proved to be greater and trustworthy always. I discipline my mind and heart to live for the glory of your name in all my ways, in Jesus name. Amen!
