OF WISE JUDGEMENT
“For the word of a king is authority and power, and who can say to him, What are you doing? Whoever observes the [king’s] command will experience no harm, and a wise man’s mind will know both when and what to do. For every purpose and matter has its [right] time and judgment, although the misery and wickedness of man lies heavily upon him [who rebels against the king].”
Ecclesiastes 8:4-6 AMPC
There are approximately five contexts in which we can define judgment. At its core, judgment is weighing evidence, forming conclusions, and rendering decisions — whether by a person, a court, or God.
In our theme scripture, the judgment being spoken of is the wisdom to know when and how to act under authority, and the recognition that God has appointed a time and outcome for every matter.
This principle also applies to earthly authority. It is wisdom to know when, how, and what to do or say in the presence of those who are over us. Kings in this sense represent anyone in authority within a given structure.
Child of God, whether you are a wife speaking to your husband, an employee to a master, a student to a teacher, a youth to an elder, or man to God Himself—let prudence govern your words. For it is written: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
Prayer: My Father, I thank you for the gift of wisdom and discernment that You freely give to those who ask. Thank you for setting times and seasons, and for guiding my steps in the right way. Help me to speak with prudence, to act with humility, and to honor those you have placed in authority over me. Above all, I am grateful that Your hand directs every judgment and outcome for my good and your glory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
