PROGRESSIVE SANCTIFICATION

“This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.” Titus 3:8 NIV

Sanctification can be defined as a state of growing in divine grace as a result of one’s commitment to Christ. If you have been in the faith for sometime, you can attest that this journey is one of repeated patterns over and over again because perfection will only be made complete when our savior returns.

Christians have the privilege of hosting the Holy Spirit, which makes them a little lower than their master (Hebrews 2:7), while also living in a fallen body that is subject to sin and death in the flesh. That is why when it comes to Christian disciplines, we ought to constantly repeat, learn, unlearn, submit, fast, be corrected, be rebuked, be exhorted and so on.

As part of his final exhortations to one of his apprentices Titus, Paul exhorts the teacher to “stress these things” in order for those who have believed to stay devoted to doing what is good. This presupposes that if the teachings and commands of our Lord are neglected, our lives are at risk of being governed by the flesh

That is why it is imperative to submit to the patterns and examples set by our forefathers that we may be kept blameless on the day of judgment. Child of God, do not despise God’s correction and counsel for its purpose is to give you life in abundance. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I exercise my self as one in a race to win. As a great man once said, I have esteemed your words more than necessary food and in that I find life in abundance. Set my feet on the rock that is higher than I that I may spend my days worshipping and praising you with in your temple, in Jesus name.
