REDEEMING THE TIME
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.” Ephesians 5:15-16 NKJV
Time is the great equalizer in this world. It is the one resource that every person, regardless of their circumstances, receives in equal measure.
Whether we are busy or idle, we all have the same 24 hours in a day, the difference lies in how we choose to use them. The word “redeem” means to rescue or buy back something from a negative condition. When it comes to time, that negative condition is waste. Wasting time on things with little or no eternal significance puts us in a dangerous place. In our theme scripture, Paul urges us to redeem the time, following a set of principles that guide how a child of light should live.
He reminds us that even what is hidden will eventually be revealed, and calls us to live wisely, knowing we’ll give an account for our actions. For believers, redeeming the time means dedicating it to the Lord. It is a continual awareness that we live before an audience of One, to whom we will answer for everything, whether in public or private.
As you search the scriptures and align your life with His will, your treasures will be stored in heaven, and you will live blamelessly on earth. Praise God!
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. I spend my time wisely, doing my work as unto the Lord. I put forward service and rest, keeping an awareness of the grace given me through each. May the meditations of my heart and the thoughts of my mind honor you in all things, in Jesus name. Amen!
