RIGHTS AND CHOICES

“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but not everything is constructive.” 1 Corinthians 10:23 NIV

Traffic lights always catch my attention. As drivers, we’re bound by rules, and violations come with heavy consequences.

Yet, some still break them—just less frequently. Traffic lights, especially, are great equalizers. A red light means stop, no matter how clear the intersection may seem. Yellow requires a quick decision—either speed up or slow down, based on where you are. Green gives us the freedom to move forward confidently. In the same way, believers experience conviction or intuition, a kind of spiritual “traffic light.” If you’re prompted to slow down, see it as a yellow light.

Take time to pray, trust God’s timing, and proceed cautiously. When you feel a strong urge to stop—whether it’s in making life decisions, financial choices, or career moves—trust that God can redirect you if you’ve made a mistake. If everything aligns, you’ve prayed, sought counsel, and found no conflict with truth, move forward in confidence, knowing your path is blessed. Sometimes the lines between fear and caution blur, or even good advice may be unknowingly influenced by deception. In these moments, wait and ask God for wisdom—He delights in giving it to those who seek it. Praise God, for He is never the author of confusion.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for this truth. I delight in your counsel that does not confuse or distract me. Surround me with older brothers and sisters in the faith, and give me a heart of flesh that loves and is inclined to counsel. My ears be open to truth, and my heart is trained to love it, in Jesus name. Amen!
