SUPERIOR COVENANT

“But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means. Those who are spiritual can evaluate all things, but they themselves cannot be evaluated by others. For, “Who can know the Lord’s thoughts? Who knows enough to teach him?” But we understand these things, for we have the mind of Christ.”1 Corinthians 2:14-16 NLT

One of the most pleasant human experiences is to be understood, and I have heard many a time, believers share how often they feel misunderstood. In our theme scripture, Paul explains what this phenomenon is. As a born-again individual, the first thing that is different about you is the presence of the Holy Spirit. You have the very mind of God at work in you.

Naturally, the Holy Spirit instructs but does not force, is gentle yet firm, is always true and more often than not against your carnal or sinful nature. That is why things that we receive by conviction don’t always feel comfortable and easy to do. It is therefore inevitable for you to be misunderstood by those whose lives are limited to physical realities because you now have access to spiritual realities from whence all reality starts.

It is this experience that severs relationships and friendships that are not of God, commitments and hobbies which you may have entered by ignorance. There is a progressive clarity that guides your every decision, perfecting and transforming you in the image of our Lord. It is for this reason the Apostle boldly says: Count it all joy my brothers and sisters when you encounter trials of many kinds, because you know that when your faith is tested, endurance has a chance to grow (James 1:2-3).

It wouldn’t be possible to count this joy without prior understanding of the new nature at work in you, and the difference it makes in setting you apart. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I acknowledge that every boundary you set is for my freedom. I exercise diligence in searching out matters especially as it pertains to the convictions of the Spirit. I rejoice in His leading for I know all He speaks is of you, and according to your will, in Jesus name. Amen!
