THE MINISTER’S DUTIES (II)
“For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it.” Galatians 1:13 NIV
One of the struggles ministers often face is the fear of being canceled or judged when it comes to changing their ways or evolving in their doctrine.
However, we cannot claim to be continually sanctified and renewed in our minds if we do not present a deeper understanding of different aspects of life and faith. If Paul had refused to face the reality revealed in the revelation he received from Christ, we likely would not have seen him lay the foundation of the New Testament church.
All 12 disciples belonged to a society that required all male children to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scripture by the age of 12, yet they were open to learning from Christ, who was different from everything they were familiar with. As a minister, be open to learning and unlearning things as you grow. Be humble and teachable, acknowledging where you may have shared from a place of incomplete counsel or pride, trying to show that you knew something.
We are all a work in progress, and it is better to be teachable and malleable in the hands of the Lord than to be proud and stagnant in the regression that Satan causes. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father, thank you for this wisdom. I am transformed daily by the renewal of my mind and exposure to the truth of Scripture. May it be said of me that I moved in the direction you stirred me to, in speech, actions, and conduct, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
CI.
