THE MINISTER’S DUTY
“We put no stumbling block in anyone’s path, so that our ministry will not be discredited.” 2 Corinthians 6:3 NIV
In James 3:1, the Bible discourages many from being quick to desire the role of teacher or master.
This is not because there is anything wrong or despicable about being a teacher, but because there is a higher standard for anyone who claims to be of faith, and an even greater one for those called to steward the good news of the Gospel. The reason for this is that once you are in such a position, you are called to embody the message you preach—in speech, deed, and conduct.
Jesus exemplifies this best; He Himself was the very Word of God. Therefore, everything right that you do can serve as a commendable example for others to follow, bringing spirit and life to the message you preach (John 6:63). But the opposite is also true: anything wrong that you do can become a stumbling block for others who are watching you.
Your ministry should ultimately flow from your intimacy with God. As you tarry with Him, He will ignite your words in the hearts of those entrusted to you.
Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father, I thank You for this truth. As Paul says, I will not speak of anything You have not done in me. I have a ruled spirit and follow Your lead in what, when, and how to minister to Your people, for You minister to me first. In Jesus’ name, Amen! CI. RELATED RESOURCES • Romans 15:18 • 1 Timothy 5:2
