THE OFFENSIVENESS OF THE GOSPEL

“For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life. And who is equal to such a task? Unlike so many, we do not peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as those sent from God.” 2 Corinthians 2:15-17 NIV

Christianity is perhaps the most hated and opposed faith in the world, simply because its founder defeated death.

But this should not surprise us. Long before Christ came, it was foretold that He would be the stone the builders rejected (Matthew 21:42), the rock of offense to the disobedient (1 Peter 2:8), and foolishness to those who are perishing (1 Corinthians 1:18). Look closely at those who fiercely oppose Christ’s message. Many consider themselves “builders” of truth, yet they reject it. Others are disobedient, while some, puffed up with knowledge, think they know better than God.

As a child of God, you are an aroma that refreshes and encourages those who are turning toward Christ. Yet, to those who rebel, you will be an offense, a cause for alarm. Take courage, believer. In the end, truth will always prevail. If you face persecution, remember that the servant is never greater than the master. If you are hated, know that Christ was hated even more. But if you are welcomed, share freely, for you received freely.

Praise the Lord!

Prayer: Father, thank You for this encouragement. I know that in all things, I am more than a conqueror because Christ strengthens me. May it be said of me that I stood firm on the truth that saves, regardless of the circumstances, and to the glory of Your name. Amen.

CI.
