THE VEILED GOSPEL
“And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 NIV
In the previous chapter, Paul explains how Satan blinds people’s minds.
In 2 Corinthians 3:14-16, the Bible says, “Their minds were closed, and to this day, the same veil remains when they read the old covenant. It hasn’t been removed, because only in Christ can it be taken away. Whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.” The covenant given to Moses was perfect in its purpose, but it showed people that they couldn’t fix the separation caused by the fall of man and restore the close relationship with God through human effort or reasoning alone.
People who don’t know Christ are often described as “blinded.” They place their hopes in things that can only be achieved by human effort — like success, wealth, status, or possessions. But no matter how much they acquire, they are never fully satisfied because their desires keep growing. Ecclesiastes 3:11 says that the longing for more is a never-ending pursuit, and only God, who is eternal, can satisfy that need. Without God, no one can truly find contentment.
But the Gospel of Jesus Christ offers eternal life, where true contentment, peace, rest, sanctification, and love are found. This is the beauty of the Gospel — and it’s the very thing that keeps unbelievers from seeing the truth. They remain blinded by their own desires and the distractions of the world because these things cannot be understood except by faith.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this word. I thank you for your holy spirit that teaches me into all truth and establishes me in obedience of what I hear. Thank you for the grace to seek your word diligently that I may gain understanding and follow your counsel, in Jesus name. Amen! CI.
