A PRAYING WIFE

“Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.” 1 Peter 3:7 NIV

The scripture above has been abused, misinterpreted, and sometimes even weaponized.

The word used for weak ironically in this passage in its original language alludes to “neutralizing a threat”. In other words wives act as threat neutralizers, spiritually. That is why a wife that cannot pray is subject to all kinds of abuse at the hands of the enemy in her own home ( Proverbs 31:27).

To husbands, the word Peter translates as your prayers not being hindered based on how you deal with your bride are contrasted to the outriggers of a ship. If outriggers are manipulated or tampered with, a ship cannot withstands the waves and tempest it meets on the waters. Likewise, if your wife is against you it is hard to stand seeing she has been given charge of the affairs of the home.

This is a call for both individuals to take their rightful positions knowing the rolls are complementary and not adversary.

Praise God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Give us the wisdom to honor the institutions you have put in place and the grace to follow the steps you have set for your glory in them. It shall be said of us that in every home you have called, a godly seed has been raised unto you, in Jesus name. Amen!
