AVOIDING DIVISIONS (I)
“So don’t give people the opportunity to slander what you know to be good.” Romans 14:16 TPT
The pentecostal faith is comprised of at least 700 highly decentralized known denominations.
One would wonder why there could be as many divisions if Christ died for a singular purpose which is reconciliation of humanity to God (2 Corinthians 5:17). Ironically, most divisions are not even about things of eternal value but disputable matters, such as days to observe, what to wear and not to wear, when to fast and when to feast and most importantly what to eat and what not to eat.
Paul tells us that such things not only destroy the work of God but cause irreparable damage to the souls of the weak in faith. When we speak of weakness however, it is not to be understood as new believers or babes in the faith. You are weak when your desire to be right about a matter, with little to no regard to the damage it may cause to another brother/ sister supersedes the work God is doing in them, growing and maturing them through His spirit.
Be therefore mature enough to discern what the work of God in another believer’s life looks like, and pray for self control and humility not to stand as a hindrance to that. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I am careful and considerate of the things that the holy spirit alone can bring about in mine and other’s lives. Humble my heart to stand in the gap prayerfully in all that I am privileged to see, to the glory of your name. Amen!
