CALLING & VOCATION
“We will not boast about things done outside our area of authority. We will boast only about what has happened within the boundaries of the work God has given us, which includes our working with you.” 2 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
A vocation is an occupation that one is particularly drawn to, can be trained or qualified for, whereas a calling is a religious vocation that may come from within oneself or from a divine messenger.
We might all be familiar with the saying “jack of all trades” except that how one performs determines if they are master of many or none. In our theme scripture, Paul opens our eyes to the wisdom of God in assigning men. While it is not a bad thing to pursue multiple things on the condition that you do well in them, it is even a more wise thing to identify what you are drawn to or called to and dedicate time to perfecting that particular skill.
Unlike popular opinion, a man who dedicates time, resources, and energy to excelling into what they have been called to either divinely or vocationally, has more chances to achieve more and perfect their craft best. If you are in ministry, find out what your calling is and focus on that, with God’s help your people shall be willing in your day of power (Psalm 110:3) because you have been found faithful. The same in business, service provision, education and others, find your niche and work on excelling.
Child of God, this is how you don’t act outside of your area of authority.
Prayer: Father I thank you for this word. I thank you for the wisdom of your spirit at work in me that tames and directs me to excel in that which you have assigned as my lot. It shall be said of me that whatever I endeavored in gave you glory, in Jesus name. Amen!
