DISARMING THE ENEMY
“And “don’t sin by letting anger control you.” Don’t let the sun go down while you are still angry, for anger gives a foothold to the devil.” Ephesians 4:26-27 NLT
One of my favorite definitions of the word “foothold” is an occasion for acting. In other words Paul says don’t go to bed angry because in doing so you give the enemy an occasion to act.
This is such a powerful reminder to us as believers that the enemy having been disarmed by the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ, we alone can give him the power or opportunity to act against us, through us.
You have been given such power through Christ, that your enemy needs you to come in agreement in order to do anything against you. Being vigilant looks like letting go of disputes and grudges, being quick to forgive and apologize, and most importantly being grateful for how you have been forgiven yourself.
This is how you practice the way, and disarm your enemy. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Teach my lips to be wise and my heart to ponder your ways in every circumstance. Help me to guard my heart and to make every effort to extend the grace which has been given me, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
