EXPECTING GOOD
“By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world’s corruption caused by human desires.” 2 Peter 1:3-4 NLT
A promise can be defined as good grounds for expectations. In our theme scripture, Peter writes to believers in Rome to not give heed to the false teachers that were going against the message of Jesus Christ, and telling people that He wouldn’t return.
The apostle encourages even us today that we shouldn’t mistake Christ’s delayed return as a failure to keep His promise, but rather as an opportunity for many who are still walking in darkness and bondage to accept the invitation of salvation and inherit the Kingdom of God.
The same is true for us today, everything in the progressive world we live in almost seems to have a gospel of its own that promises all kinds of fortunes and successes; yet something remains unchanging and that is our Lord Jesus Christ and the sure promise of salvation to all those who believe.
Be of good cheer then brothers and sisters, and live with a perpetual expectation of good to come. Praise God!
Prayer : Father I thank you for this word. I take comfort in knowing that you have given me all that I need to live a godly life. Help me to always fix my gaze on you with humility and a teachable spirit in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
