GOD IN ALL THINGS
“For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription: TO AN UNKNOWN GOD. So you are ignorant of the very thing you worship—and this is what I am going to proclaim to you.”
Acts 17:23 NIV
Athens was a city full of seasoned philosophers of greek origin, a handful of jews and many other foreigners who worshipped different idol gods.
As we know of greeks, knowledge is something that has been attributed to them for centuries but as it is written, the complete cycle of substantial knowledge must be coupled with wisdom and understanding (Proverbs 23:4). With that in mind, Athenians were people that loved knowing something new every chance they got to a point that such a desire became lustful. I have often mentioned a former evangelist turned agnostic, Charles Templeton and in a debate where he attempted to justify his fall from faith to his friend Billy Graham, Billy sternly responded:
“I’ve discovered something in my ministry: When I take the Bible literally, when I proclaim it as the word of God, my preaching has power. There are results. Wiser men than you or I have been arguing questions like this for centuries. I don’t have the time or the intellect to examine all sides of the theological dispute, so I’ve decided once for all to stop questioning and accept the Bible as God’s word.”
Billy’s response is one of the wisest postures the heart of a mature believer can be in. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17) and attempting to hear anything from outside the Word of God to stir faith in itself is an error. The same spirit that drove the inquisitiveness of Athenians still roams even today, deceiving many to inquire lustfully and seek God from outside His revealed nature.
Child of God, the Bible has not forgotten anything you need to know the heart of God, and that concerning any matter. Stay on course, and trust that He is your present help in time of need, and His Holy Spirit is readily available to teach and reveal to you what you need at every stage of life. In Him we love, move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Hallelujah!
Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. I have resolved to know nothing but Christ and Him crucified. Your word is my standard for truth for in you all things consist. I am persuaded you are who you say you are and desire to spend my life in response to that, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
