GODLY INHERITANCE

“Truly I am your servant, Lord; I serve you just as my mother did; you have freed me from my chains.” Psalms 116:16 NIV

Children learn a great deal from their parents or guardians, as they are their first introduction to the world. However, there are qualities that don’t come naturally or through heredity, such as grace.

While some parents may faithfully serve the Lord, their children might not follow the same path. Yet, there will always be a clear difference in a child raised in a home where not only the Word is read, but also lived out. Many parents dedicate a lot of energy to imposing religious practices on their children, but fail to live out those principles themselves. As a result, when the children grow older, they can often see that it was just empty words, with no visible spiritual fruit to back it up.

The psalmist highlights this truth by noting the persistent devotion of His mother, which served as an encouragement to continue stirring up the gifts of God within Him.

Fathers, be mindful of what you live IN your children, just as much as you labor for what to leave FOR them. Let your life be a testament to the grace and faithfulness of the Lord!

Praise be to God!

Prayer: Father I thank you for this wisdom. Every good and perfect gift comes from you. Because of the pattern set before me, through faithful matriarchs and patriarchs of the faith, I work out my salvation with fear and trembling, and the joy of the Lord,  in Jesus name. Amen!
