OF LIGHT BURDENS AND EASY YOKES
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6 NIV
Every believer who has truly encountered the person of Jesus Christ cannot help but share Him with those around them.
The prophet Jeremiah said it best: “But if I say, ‘I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name,’ his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones.” (Jeremiah 20:9).
While not all of us are called to the pulpit, I firmly believe that every believer is uniquely gifted and graced for the benefit of their community. With that in mind, discovering your area of authority is the first step in understanding your divine assignment—what Scripture often refers to as a “burden.”
Your second responsibility is to walk in close, daily intimacy with the Lord so that this burden remains light. Many become burnt out, weary, and eventually discouraged in their personal ministry because they fail to let “the government rest on His shoulders,” as it was always meant to. The secret to endurance in ministry—whether large or small—is in your ability to stay close to the Lord, consistently casting the burden He has entrusted to you back onto Him. He will supply the wisdom and strategy you need to respond well.
No one who walks in daily dependence on the Lord will ever fail to complete the work they’ve been assigned. Selah!
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this wisdom. In all my endeavors, teach me to never be so busy serving you that I miss You. You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup, may it be said of me that I didn’t just serve you but knew You, in Jesus’ name. Amen!
