OF NOT WRITING OFF OTHERS
“ ‘An enemy did this,’ he replied. “The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ “ ‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’ ” Matthew 13:28-30 NIV
Scripture reminds us that it is not God’s will that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
With this in view, we must consider the sober reality that there may be some among us who have not yet been fully persuaded by the truth we profess. These individuals, though not yet convinced, are not to be written off. As long as they are willing to sit under the message of the Gospel, there remains great hope. Our part is not to uproot, accuse, or judge prematurely, but to trust the patient work of the Lord, who alone searches hearts and brings conviction.
In time, two things may unfold: either they will be transformed and gathered as wheat into His barn, or they will resist His grace and remain as weeds for the fire. But that judgment belongs to the Lord of the harvest—not to us. Until then, we wait with hope. We sow in love.
We trust in the wisdom of God who alone knows what each seed will become.
Prayer: Father thank you for this truth. You say the harvest is plentiful, and you have made me a laborer compassionate and worthy to labor in your field. Keep us from judging prematurely, and help us trust You with every soul still growing in the field. May Your truth do its work, and may we be faithful to love until the day of gathering. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
