PRIDE & JEALOUSY

“Son of man, because Tyre has said of Jerusalem, ‘Aha! The gate to the nations is broken, and its doors have swung open to me; now that she lies in ruins I will prosper,’ therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I am against you, Tyre, and I will bring many nations against you, like the sea casting up its waves.” Ezekiel 26:2-3 NIV

The prophecies of Ezekiel offer a powerful reminder of the destructive power of pride—an arrogance that led to Satan’s expulsion from heaven.

Our theme scripture is a prime example of this. Proverbs 16:18 tells us, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall,” and this was exactly what happened to Lucifer, the anointed cherub. His pride convinced him he could be God, and his inevitable downfall followed swiftly. In our theme scripture, Tyre symbolizes the enemy, while Jerusalem represents the gate to the nations—God’s chosen people.

Tyre, a key port for trade and commerce, rejoiced over Jerusalem’s fall, thinking it would now prosper. However, what Tyre failed to realize is that to oppose Israel is to oppose God Himself.
As a result, Tyre’s arrogance became its curse. Child of God, never waste your energy on carnal battles—especially those involving unbelievers without a covenant, and even among fellow believers. The Lord Himself fights for you (Exodus 14:14).

Anyone who rises up against you in pride or jealousy is ultimately standing against the Lord your God. Hallelujah!

Prayer: Father, thank you for this wisdom. Search my heart and weed out any deceptions that may lead me to pride or haughtiness. I know the heart is deceptive, and only you search the hearts of men. I yield it to you to plant only seeds of peace and love, in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
