SUBMITTING TO ORDER
“I went in response to a revelation and, meeting privately with those esteemed as leaders, I presented to them the gospel that I preach among the Gentiles. I wanted to be sure I was not running and had not been running my race in vain.” Galatians 2:2 NIV https://bible.com/bible/111/gal.2.2.NIV
Most New Testament commands are not as clear-cut as the Ten Commandments because, where the Spirit is, there is liberty (2 Corinthians 3:17).
Liberty in this case refers to interpretation. The Holy Spirit, as our teacher, knows exactly how to apply wisdom in each situation without altering God’s ultimate will. Our theme scripture illustrates this. Even though Paul was a called and empowered apostle, he still submitted his message to the leaders of the city who were already established in authority.
This wasn’t for the sake of gaining their praise, but to confirm the legitimacy of his message—just as every shepherd must recognize the weight of their responsibility in stewarding the souls of others. Every minister should approach another’s sphere of authority with similar humility and wisdom. Our God is a God of order, appointing and removing authority as He wills.
No one should consider themselves beyond submission, for true power lies in obedience. Praise the Lord!
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this truth. I thank you for your spirit that guided me into all truth and helps me exercise my liberties in moderation. May it always be said of me that my actions and words lifted you, as you draw men to yourself, in Jesus name. Amen!
