THE PRECIOUS GIFT OF GOD

“When Aaron has finished making atonement for the Most Holy Place, the tent of meeting and the altar, he shall bring forward the live goat. He is to lay both hands on the head of the live goat and confess over it all the wickedness and rebellion of the Israelites—all their sins—and put them on the goat’s head. He shall send the goat away into the wilderness in the care of someone appointed for the task. The goat will carry on itself all their sins to a remote place; and the man shall release it in the wilderness.” Leviticus 16:20-22 NIV

When you read the Pentateuch and history books of the Bible, you cannot help but reverently and humbly appreciate the gift of God found in Jesus Christ.

Our theme scripture is one of the priestly rituals that were to be performed for the atonement of sin, and if even the righteous falls seven times (Proverbs 24:16) — how much more blood would there have been need to shed seeing how wicked and evil sin has made man?  Child of God, such things should draw you to always ponder the gift of salvation which you have received.

Not just that, it should stir in you a desire not to live this life of faith passively simply because you have secured your entry into heaven.  It should also inspire us to live intentionally, not passively, knowing that we will one day give an account for our lives and be rewarded accordingly.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for the gift that is Christ. What you sent your son to do on the cross is indescribable and by it I live, move and have my being. May Christ remain the center of all my affections, that I may please you in all my ways — in Jesus name. Amen!
