THE POWER OF PRAISE

“May the praise of God be in their mouths and a double-edged sword in their hands, to inflict vengeance on the nations and punishment on the peoples, to bind their kings with fetters, their nobles with shackles of iron, to carry out the sentence written against them— this is the glory of all his faithful people. Praise the Lord.” Psalms 149:6-9 NIV

One of the most fascinating stories in the Old Testament is that of King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20:21.

When facing the Ammonites and Moabites, Jehoshaphat didn’t send his soldiers with swords and spears. Instead, he led a troop of worshipers.  As they praised God, He set ambushes for their enemies, causing them to turn on one another. Child of God, praise is a weapon far mightier than we can comprehend. The king’s unconventional way set a precedent that still nourishes us to date.  David understood this when he declared that God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).

When life feels overwhelming, when words fail and hope seems lost, remember the powerful weapon still in your hands—your praise. There are situations where prayer or fasting may not seem to break you through, but praise cannot be tamed, and you can trust that it will always bring you out triumphant.  Seize then your power, and praise God without restraint!

Prayer: Father, I thank you for this truth. I have tested and proven you as it pertains to this truth. Strengthen and fill my heart with songs for I know you delight in my praise. I will magnify your name, now and forever more, in Jesus’ name. Amen!  CI.
