TEMPORARY HABITAT
“Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul. Live an exemplary life in your neighborhood so that your actions will refute their prejudices. Then they’ll be won over to God’s side and be there to join in the celebration when he arrives.”
Everything that is temporary should be treated as such. The problem with mankind is that we treat this temporary life as eternal and disregard the spiritual realities as temporary when in reality it should be the other way round.
In our theme scripture, Peter reiterates that we are in the world but not of it, and we should always carry that consciousness in everything we do. A puffed up ego is the opposite of a humble soul, and among the two your ego only matters until you die which makes it temporary, while your humility accompanies you even beyond death because its tied to the soul which is saved as you have believed.
This should provide us with enough grounds to starve our egos because we labor in vain catering to that which perishes, and instead grow stronger and stronger in exercising humility, not just as an outward temperament but a true way of life and state of the heart for it is eternal.
The result of this is told us in verse twelve, that our character will refute their prejudices and instead win them over to this treasured life we have in Christ. Child of God, it is not a mere cliché that you could indeed be the only Bible a man gets to read, and every time you walk the earth you have an opportunity to compel men to come in or to repel them for good, causing them to stumble. Be wise in your choosing! Hallelujah.
Prayer: Father I thank you for this truth. As scripture says I walk circumspectly redeeming the time for the days are evil. I look to Jesus daily, staying sensible to the holy spirit that I may be moved towards what moves you and co-labor in the harvest as it pleases you. Thank you for the wisdom and grace to do so, in Jesus name. Amen!
