THE CURSE WAS JUDGED

“Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.” Numbers 21:8-9 NKJV

The serpents that bit and killed the Israelites in the wilderness were a symbolic demonstration of the wages of sin being death (Romans 6:23).

Yet, in mercy, God instructed Moses to lift up a bronze serpent—a prophetic image pointing to Christ—so that those who looked upon it in faith would live.
This act of healing through looking forward to Christ foreshadowed the cross. Jesus, who bore our curse, now calls us to fix our eyes on Him, just as the Israelites once looked up in faith.

As Hebrews 12:2 reminds us: “Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”. Child of God, we look upon the cross not only with reverence but with joy, knowing it is the place where our sin was judged, and our redemption secured.

Be still, trust in His finished work, and rest in the faithfulness of the One who saves.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for becoming the sacrifice for my sin. Just as the Israelites looked to the bronze serpent and lived, I choose to fix my eyes on You, the source of my salvation and healing. Help me to walk in faith, free from condemnation, and anchored in Your mercy, to the glory of your name, Amen!
